Dad and Me

I was raised in a town of thirty thousand in the hills of Tennessee
Went to church on Wednesday - twice on Sunday - Religion is in my genealogy
Son of a preacher with his own set of secrets - Hope I learn from his history
Exactly the same and yet very much different - That is my Dad and me

What would you do if your father sat you down and said "Son, we share the same tendency"?
When he was young he was afraid of what he wanted - got married to be like other families
It must've been hard keeping all his secrets - I clearly understand that part
One last attempt to be close to his son - That is why he tried to open up his heart

Same eyes - same nose - same blood - same name
But now - I know - I'll live my life - and it won't be filled with shame

Same eyes - same nose - same blood - same name
But now - I know - I'll live my life - and it won't be filled with shame

I was raised in a town of thirty thousand in the hills of Tennessee - So was he
Exactly the same - and yet very much different - That is my Dad and me
