In 2002, the Kinsey Sicks, America's Favorite Dragapella Beautyshop Quartet, unleashed their message of queer liberation and general naughtiness on audiences gay and straight. With songs such as "Locked Out of the Chapel of Love" and "AZT", the Kinseys raised important LGBT issues without compromising their content before mainstream audiences such as the Montreal "Just for Laughs" Comedy Festival and colleges, casinos and corporations across the country. This material won the Kinsey Sicks a nomination for a GLAAD Media Award in 2002 for their Off-Broadway show, "Dragapella!" The Kinseys also entertained queer audiences at innumerable gay events and fundraisers, and challenged them as well with songs such as "You're Scaring Us" (about the gay fear of aging) and "Buy My Pride" (challenging the ubiquity of corporate sponsorship of queer events). TheKinseys Sicks are both hilarious and insidious, making them a valuable asset to the LGBT community.

Mark Weigle does not address his songs to straight people. His songs do not seek to explain, justify, or ask for acceptance or forgiveness for his being gay. Instead he writes from his own gay experience in a way that affirms, and sometimes challenges gay listeners.
In 2002 Mark continued to push for Gay Pride organizations to hire out gay performers, participating in the InterPride national conference.
He was the subject of a 1000+ word feature in Billboard magazine, which included direct discussion of his gay writing perspective and audience.
Mark is a champion of segments of the community that are marginalized within the "gaystream"; Gay men who are largely ignored by gay media and institutions because they are not 20 year old circuit boys. Rural gays, Bears, and men over 40 who have been impacted by AIDS.

I (Yolanda) have been very active in creating visibility and performance opportunities for Transgender artists as well as gay and lesbian artists in 2002. I created and hosted and performed at a continual GLBT music series at the Lesbian Bar- Meow Mix in Lower manhattan. I was told by the owner when I first approached them that men were not allowed to perform there. When I told them I was a trannie they gave me an opportunity. I have created a night there now where anyone is welcomed...gay lesbian..trans..straight..whatever. I see this as building a bridge between separatist communities. We even held a radical faerie fundraiser at the space and I gave Freddy freeman his first opportunity to perform with his full band at Meow Mix. I am very proud of the good atmosphere and relationship that I have created there for the whole GLBT community. I also received two Stone wall awards for my music..in 2002...Best Transgender Artist and Best Camp Song for "EaT Me".
