I (Yolanda) have been very active in creating visibility and performance opportunities for Transgender artists as well as gay and lesbian artists in 2002. I created and hosted and performed at a continual GLBT music series at the Lesbian Bar- Meow Mix in Lower manhattan. I was told by the owner when I first approached them that men were not allowed to perform there. When I told them I was a trannie they gave me an opportunity. I have created a night there now where anyone is welcomed...gay lesbian..trans..straight..whatever. I see this as building a bridge between separatist communities. We even held a radical faerie fundraiser at the space and I gave Freddy freeman his first opportunity to perform with his full band at Meow Mix. I am very proud of the good atmosphere and relationship that I have created there for the whole GLBT community. I also received two Stone wall awards for my music..in 2002...Best Transgender Artist and Best Camp Song for "EaT Me".
